Subgenus Pipistrellus. Reviewed by Yoshiyuki (1989) and Görföl et al. (2020). Known from a single female "slightly immature" (Thomas, 1915: 231) specimen collected in the 1890s with an uncertain provenance (see Görföl et al., 2020), this species has not been reported since and is likely extinct.

Koopman's Pipistrelle
Subgenus Pipistrellus. Long recognized as a distinct species (see e.g., Chasen, 1940; Tate, 1942; Kitchener et al., 1986; Hill and Harrison, 1987), but synonymized with tenuis by Koopman (1973), a treatment followed by many subsequent authors (e.g., Corbet and Hill, 1992; Simmons, 2005). Morphologically and molecularly distinct from tenuis; see Helgen et al. (2009). Despite extensive efforts to locate additional individuals, the last sighting of this species occurred in August 2009 (Lumsden et al., 2021). Occasional strays of murrayi were observed on Cocos-Keeling Island; see Wood-Jones (1910).
